1) The way my younger son’s face lit up when my hubby and I surprised him with something he hadn’t been expecting.

2) The sheer delight on my father-in-law’s face (I swear he turned into a 5-year-old getting the best present ever on Christmas morning) when my hubby told him he’d get him Apple TV so he could get Netflix on his television.

3) Reading the note hubby left for me in the shower. (I’ve got an Aqua Notepad hanging on the wall in case a story idea hits while I’m shampooing.) I’d share what he wrote, but it’s uh, a little dirty.

4) Running into a friend I haven’t seen in forever and smiling and laughing and catching up like it was yesterday that we saw each other.

5) Email from a reader that includes the words “bloody brilliant.” *smiles big*

6) Hugs. I’m so lucky to get them every day from the guys in my life and just thinking about them warms my heart.

Your turn! Tell me about a recent happy moment in your life!

Happy Holidays! Happy New Year! Happy! Happy!

With 2014 drawing to a close I thought I’d share a few of my favorite pictures from the year. A quick little retrospective of what brought a smile to my face.

IMG_0193

This little guy is a constant source of happy. Even when he’s being naughty and chewing on things he’s not supposed to. Love you, Harry!

IMG_0023

You guys know how much I love cupcakes. So getting these from my awesome publisher, Entangled, was really special and I’m so glad I took a picture to remember them by!

IMG_0987

This is one of my favorite pictures from RWA. That’s the amazing Samanthe Beck, the amazing Liz Pelletier, and me at the RITA Awards Ceremony. Are we cool or what? LOL

IMG_0184

I don’t post many pictures of my family, but my guys are the most important people in my life and this picture is from Father’s Day. We’re at Angel Stadium and had the best time. The only thing missing was my older son, who was out of town for a fraternity function.

IMG_1069

The ocean, the sand, they are my favorite things and on the day I took this picture I was so thrilled to have the first book in my Kisses in the Sand series out. I was also on a weekend getaway with my hubby and that made this morning walk on the beach really wonderful.

That’s me and my mom after our skydive. She landed back safely on the ground after me and this is one of the few pics her instructor got of us together. I love how she looks so calm as she’s talking about her experience. It was one of the best days ever – definitely a highlight from 2014!

I hope you have fond memories of the year, and I’d love to hear about something special you’ll always remember. Happy holidays and…

I skydived! And it was awesome and amazing and crazy fun and I can’t wait to do it again!! Seriously, I want to jump again right now.

I was hoping to post the video here, but I can’t figure out how to share it. So, you’ll just have to come over to my house and watch it. It’s pretty funny. I swear, I had my mouth open the entire time. I was either  wooting it up or talking or laughing or something. But my damn lips never shut! Next time I jump I’m going to look a lot cooler.

I do have pictures, though! So here’s a little photo montage of me in action.

Here’s my view right before I jumped…

view before jump

And here I am right after I jumped. Although it was more like Leon (that’s my instructor) gently nudged me out of the plane. It was really easy and not at all scary. Check out the airplane right behind me!

right after jump

The free fall was amazing! Look, Mom, no parachute!

GOPR1465_0.01.17.04

The free fall lasted about 30 seconds and then Leon pulled on the chute. We coasted down for about 5 minutes after that. I wanted to stay up in the sky ALL DAY!

GOPR1465_0.01.41.04

Here I am getting to steer! See my hand on that yellow cord? That guides the chute. I tugged with my right hand and then my left  so we could do turns. It was like being on a roller coaster in the sky. Totally rocked! (And shh… it made me a teensy bit nauseous.) Also notice, my mouth is open. *shakes head* Oh, Leon also said I could slide off my goggles if I wanted to, so I did. The scenery was beautiful.

GOPR1466_0.01.55.23

Our landing was seamless and I was so sorry for the jump to come to an end. That’s me looking to the sky and wishing I was still up there!

GOPR1466_0.03.31.11

I’ve so got the bug now you guys! You can be sure I’ll jump again in 2015. I really loved it and wasn’t nervous or worried for even a second. This was a really special way to spend my mom’s birthday – yep, she jumped too and rocked it – and now I’m anxious to figure out my next adventure. :) Who’s with me?

Hey there! I can’t believe the month is almost over! Only a week until Halloween and then before we know it, it will be Christmas. Crazy! So I just wanted to report back that this month has been really fun. I’ve done some new things, read a new author – by the way, I really enjoyed Shirley Jump’s, The Sweetheart Secret – and this weekend there’s one more thing on the “new” list.

My hubby and I are headed to Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns on Sunday night. I’m super excited! Over 5,000 hand carved pumpkins are going to light up for us! You can see what it’s all about here.

th

And there’s one more thing I want to share with you. I’m not getting it in this month because they were booked up, but this particular quest has been on my bucket list for a long time and it’s going to happen on December 5th! With my mom! She and I are going to…

Skydive!

Yep, you read that right! We are going to jump out of an airplane! We’re doing tandem jumps, meaning we’ll be strapped to a professional, and you can bet I’ll share all the details of how it goes here on my blog. I’m SO excited! And no doubt will want to throw up on that day, I’ll be so nervous, but I’m going for it anyway!

I also wanted to give you a heads up that next week I’ve got a super fun Halloween blog post as part of Entangled’s Wicked Blog Hop celebration. There are tons of fabulous authors and bloggers participating, so I hope you’ll check it out!

That’s it for now! Have a very happy weekend!!

Today is the one year anniversary for Her Accidental Boyfriend and to celebrate, Shane is here! He’s agreed to sit down with me and answer a few of my questions. Oh, and I may have coaxed him out of his shirt.

You’re welcome.

Shane-shutterstock_133595492Me: You can put your shirt back on now.

Shane: [chuckles] Thanks.

Me: Thank you for being here today. So, since the new fall television season is underway, I thought we’d talk about TV.  Device you watch on?

Shane: A 52-inch drop screen in my living room.

Me: That’s awesome. Does all remote control power lie with you, or does Kagan have some say?

Shane: I’m pretty much putty in Kagan’s hands so whatever she wants to watch I’m okay with. Unless it’s baseball. We’re rivals in that department and even though my team lost in the first round, I may have rubbed the playoffs  in her face a little bit since the Yank’s didn’t get that far.

Me: That’s right! You’re an Angels fan and she’s a Yankees fan. You have to admit watching Derek Jeter those last few games was special, though.

Shane: Absolutely.

Me: Funniest person on TV?

Shane: The guy on the Big Bang Theory. Kagan and I love that show.

Me: What snacks do you like to eat while watching?

Shane: [smirks] Well, I love to nibble on Kagan, but she often insists we share a bowl of popcorn or Pirate Booty.

Me: I love those. Have you got a guilty pleasure?

Shane: I can sit and watch some of those shows on HGTV all day.

Me: Given you’re vice president of one of the most respected architectural firms in the country, I can see that. Okay, show you’d like to guest star on?

Shane: NCIS.

Me: Celebrity crush?

Shane: Jimmy Fallon. [smiles]

Me: He is pretty crush-worthy. Last question. Since this month I’m trying to do new things, what new thing would you like to try?

Shane: [raises eyebrows in a far too flirtatious manner]

Me: Aside from dirty things with Kagan!

Shane: In that case, I’ll go with plant a garden. Kagan’s favorite flowers are Ranunculus, and I’ve been meaning to surprise her.

*****

Is he awesome or what? *sigh* Hey, I also wanted to mention that I’ve got a post up today at Magical Musings celebrating Her Accidental Boyfriend and there’s a giveaway.

Happy Thursday! Okay, so I went to my favorite store, Barnes & Noble, and with Octoberquest on my mind, stopped in front of this shelf to select a new author to read.

IMG_1130

There are so, so many wonderful romance authors I’ve yet to read, but two things had me picking the book I did. The first was the author herself. I met Shirley Jump this past August at the RWA conference. We were standing in line at Starbucks and she said hello to me first – by name! Holy crap! She recognized me from FB, where we’re friends – and she was the nicest, nicest person! I tried not to go too fan girl on her, and we chatted for a bit and I couldn’t stop smiling at her. I’m thinking it wasn’t my stalker smile since she didn’t make a quick escape. So anyway, that’s the first reason – she rocks! The second reason I chose her book (which is in the top right hand corner of the bookshelf, by the way) is the cover:

The-Sweetheart-Secret-medIt reminded me of this cover that I have a pretty big soft spot for:

WildAboutHerWingman-SmallI’m one of those goofy people that takes little things like this as a sign and so my new author this month is Shirley Jump, with her new book, The Sweetheart Secret. I would love, love, love it, if you wanted to read the book with me this month! I’m thinking we can meet back here the last week of October to discuss. Even if Shirley isn’t a new read for you, join me!

So tell me, who are one or two of your favorite authors? Who must I include in my TBR pile?

**Giveaway Reminder**
For every comment on my blog this month, you’ll be entered to win a $25.00 gift card. Please help me spread the word!

Hey there! Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by and commented on my first Octoberquest post! It’s so great to have you with me this month! Seriously great.

Okay, so this weekend I started things off with one of my favorite things: food.

I plan to make the awesome and easy cake recipe that Lindsey posted in the comments, but I’ve been meaning to try an Apple Crisp recipe a friend gave me, so that’s what I did. I think apple crisps are the perfect fall treat and this one did not disappoint! It was yummy. Here’s the recipe:

2 large apples, peeled and sliced
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup oats
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup melted butter

1) Heat oven to 375 degrees.

2) Spread apple slices in ungreased 8 inch square pan.

apples3) Mix remaining ingredients and put over apples. (I used my fingers to spread the crumble evenly. The melted butter made it a bit wet and thick, so it didn’t pour, more like globbed.)

IMG_11324) Bake uncovered until the topping is golden brown, about 40 minutes. Enjoy!

Here’s the finished product…

IMG_1134It was really delicious and paired with a little ice cream, even yummier. :)

My hubby and I also went out to grab a quick dinner this past weekend and were in the mood for burgers so we went to a place called Smash Burger. In the spirt of Octoberquest, I ordered a totally new kind of burger, and holy hamburger, was it good! I can’t remember the name of the burger, but it included a fried egg, crispy wonton, cucumbers, tomato, and cilantro. (It reminded me of the burger that’s in Keeping Mr. Right Now and that’s why I chose it. Yes, I’ve still got Zane on the brain.) Here’s a picture…

IMG_1135So I’m feeling like I’m off to a good start with my quest this month. I also laid the groundwork for something I’ve been wanting to do forever and am super excited – and nervous! – about, but more on that later.  How was your weekend?

Happy October! So I thought I’d have a little fun this month and put my own spin on Octoberfest. I’m calling it Octoberquest. What the heck does that mean, you ask? Well, it means I’m on a quest this month. A quest to try new things. Whether it be trying a new recipe, eating at a new restaurant, doing something I’ve never done before, reading a new author… you get the idea.

I’m going to share my adventures with you here on my blog and on Facebook and Twitter. AND, I’d love to have you join me! It’s always more fun doing things with friends, so if you want to try new things this month too, that would be awesome. Report back here with what you’re up to and I’ll cheer you on and high five your accomplishments.

Also joining me on my Octoberquest are some of my heroes and heroines from my books! They’ll be stopping in throughout the month. So if you haven’t read my books, you’ll get a peek at my characters that I hope makes you want to read more. And for you awesome readers who’ve already read their stories (thank you!!!!), I hope you’ll enjoy hearing from them again.

This is going to be such a great month! To say thanks for sharing it with me, for every comment from October 1 – October 31, you’ll be entered to win a $25.00 gift card to the online store of your choice! The winner’s name will be posted here on November 1st.

th-1READY. SET. GO!
