Fangirl moment here! I got to drive Julia Quinn to the airport last Sunday morning. Just me, her and a car. It was awesome!
Much to my delight, I remained calm and cool and acted like it was nothing, even though it was a big something! We talked like we were friends. She showed me pictures of her kids - they’re adorable - and told me a bit about her family. We shared stories about our boys eating us out of house and home. And she hoped she’d be able to get a cup of coffee at the airport.
I didn’t pester her with more writing questions, just enjoyed the short ride (darn the fact the airport was so close) and chit-chat. She is very down to earth, very warm and friendly, and someone who takes as much pride in her family as she does her writing. When we got to the airport she thanked me, told me good luck with my writing and gave me a hug. She asked if I’d be at nationals and when I said yes, she said to be sure to find her and say hello. *squee* She is so nice!

By the way, she’s got a new book coming out on May 27th called The Lost Duke Of Wyndham.
So I’ve got a question: If you could spend 15 minutes alone with a famous author, who would it be? (Leave me a comment today and you’re entered to win a signed copy of Julia’s The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever. If you left a comment on yesterday’s post, or heck, go over there now and comment, you’ll be entered twice!)
Have a wonderful weekend!

That’s an easy one: Barbara Michaels/Elizabeth Peters. She combines romance with mysteries and tosses in the occasional ghost. And I love her writing style.

Sandra Brown’s #1 Fan right over here!!! I met her once at a local signing (she lives about twenty minutes from me) and had my picture taken with her. It’s my MySpace picture.
I would love to have a three hour or so lunch with her to chit chat. Born in the same city and attended the same schools, I think we have a lot in common.

*Hiding under the chair* I haven’t read Barbara/Elizabeth or Sandra. I’m going to add them to my ever growing list of authors to read! Ilana, I think I’d especially like Barbara because next to romance I love mysteries!

Jessica! I’m so glad to see you here! I’ve missed ya!

I love Sandra Brown. I read several of her books, and enjoyed it very much. I also would like to meet Lori Foster.

Squee!!! I love Julia Quinn. (sigh)
Who would I pick? Lani Diane Rich, Christopher Moore, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jenny Cruisie, Samantha Graves/C.J. Barry, A.A. Milne (you didn’t specify alive or dead…), Laurell K. Hamilton, Robin Bielman, Melissa Marr, Stephen King, Jane Austin, Donald E. Westlake, Gregory McDonald and I’ll just stop here. My brain is starting to overheat.

Robin,
You would love Sandra Brown because she writes Thriller/Romance. She was named Thrill Master for 2008 by the International Thriller Writer’s Association. I would recommend reading Ricochet. It has so many twists and turns with a hot romance. Maybe in your free time!?! LOL

Amelia, I’ve read tons of Lori’s books! I love her!
Aww, thanks, Pam! I’ll give you more than fifteen minutes!
And there’s a few on your list I’d like to join you with.
Jessica, I think you mentioned Ricochet to me in Arizona, right? I’m putting it at the top of my list! And yeah, that free time thing, I need more of it.

Well, I think I’d choose Michael Crichton, oddly enough. His JURASSIC PARK was the only book I’ve ever read twice, consecutively. That is, I loved it so much that as soon as I read that last page, I opened it right back up and started reading from the beginning. If you’ve never read the book, do. It’s WAY better than the movie. (Oh, and don’t enter me in the contest. I already own the Cheever book.)

I know I’m late…you don’t have to enter me in the contest. I just want to get my two cents in. Hurray for Judith McNaught. I have re-read her books and love them each time. She combines great characters with romance and humor.

Wow, Kate. I’ve never reread a book like that before. Way cool.
Patti, you’re not late! I haven’t read Judith McNaught. Adding her to my list…

That sounds like so much fun, Robin! I’m jealous.
As for which author I’d want to spend fifteen minutes with, I’d have to go with a historical author (come back to life for those fifteen minutes, of course!) since I’m assuming that’s possible, and I wouldn’t get to meet them any other way. As for which one, I’m not sure. Probably Jane Austen or Emily Dickinson because they were strong women, amazing writers, and had so much mystery surrounding their lives.

Two great choices, Caryn!
